In Senegal, samples on pig farms, samples of warthogs and ticks have been collected and are currently being tested for ASF.

NEW: The thesis submitted by René Karim NDIAYE in 2007 at the
Ecole Inter-Etats des Sciences et Médecine Vétérinaires
Sénégal is now online.

The thesis, which was carried out in the context of the Wellcome Trust project, not only decscribes the epidemiology of ASF in three different regions, but also gives a good overview of the pig farming system in Senegal. The study also identified risk factors for ASF for pig farms which were presence of ASF on neighbouring farms, free-range farming system and having other pig farmers visiting the farm.
